gcc Upgrade Woes, Part Deux
I was so happy yesterday that I’ve successfully figured out what was needed to upgrade gcc on my Gentoo system.
Boy, was I in for an unpleasant surprise.
Late last night I tried to upgrade gcc on yet another fresh Gentoo install (meaning: directly after stage3+portage tarball extract plus a portage update). Remembering the previous experience, I gave the VM a 5 GB vHD.
And again I failed horribly. Even tried esoteric tactis like removing
-pipe from CFLAGS and setting MAKEOPTS to -j1, to no avail. I
keep getting this strange error:
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu internal error
or something like that.
I haven’t given up, though. Today I’m going to double-check my new VM, ensuring that it’s identical in every aspect, and retry upgrading gcc.
Wish me luck. And I promise to post any update.
Until my next dispatch then. Keep strong.
